On the second weekend of June (June 13–14), Kraffer’s Garden will once again join the pan-European project Open Garden Weekend.
Guided tours and a rich accompanying program are prepared for both days. It kicks off on Saturday morning with an author reading by Jitka Klimešová from her children’s book The Botanist’s Shoe. In the afternoon, fans of natural gardening are in for a treat as Tomáš Trejbal, an expert on chemical-free gardening, will be right in the garden by the flowerbeds created according to his advice. He’ll recommend what and when you can still sow for a later harvest and answer any curious questions from visitors.
Ceramic painting workshops and a workshop exploring the world of natural essences, oils, butters, and waxes will run all day long.
On Sunday, you can sign up for the morning Meadow Bouquet workshop or attend Nikola Mrázová’s lecture Herbal Laboratory, focusing on the oxidation, roasting, and aging of fermented herbs. The author of the popular book From the Garden to the Kitchen will also introduce her new book, Adaptogens. The afternoon will feature the opening of the exhibition Secrets of the Landfras Garden, where you can peek into this space—unknown to many locals—through M. Žoudlík’s photographs and learn fascinating facts about this forgotten corner of the city during an accompanying lecture. Throughout the weekend, the garden will display not only photographs but also entries from the children’s art competition Garden Helpers. The winners’ announcement will be one of the final events on Sunday. For those interested in making handmade paper, a workshop will be running all day where you can try out this skill.
In cooperation with the Jindřichův Hradec Municipal Library, the “Library in the Garden” will be operating again on both days. You can borrow or return books here, or even take advantage of free registration. For children, there will be workshops and the popular Scavenger Hunt with garden elves.
Delicious desserts and great coffee will be offered by Kraffer’s Café, while Rudolfov Excursion Restaurant will serve its specialties. If the weather is nice, you can also enjoy ice cream from Agrola.
